A live music improvisation workshop with Syrian-Argentinian musician Matias Hazrum, designed for dancers of all levels.
Explore what happens when you stop simply dancing to music and begin communicating with it. Through rhythm, listening, improvisation, and movement, you'll discover new ways to respond, play, and trust your instincts as a dancer.

Meet Matias Hazrum, Guest Artist
Born in Buenos Aires and of Syrian descent, Matias Hazrum is an internationally recognized Arabic percussionist, musician, composer, and teacher. He began playing percussion at just six years old and has dedicated more than two decades to the study and performance of Arabic music. A master of the drum, keyboard, and instruments including the mashar, daff, and riq, Matias brings a deep knowledge of Arabic musical traditions together with a distinctly creative and powerful style.
For more than 20 years, Matias has shared his music with dancers and musicians around the world. He was the lead drummer of the Mario Kirlis Orchestra, has composed countless drum solos and works for belly dancers, and has collaborated with some of the most recognized artists in the belly dance world. Today, he continues to perform and compose across styles including mejanse, baladi, and drum solos — always approaching Arabic music with heart, curiosity, and an unmistakable creative voice.

The Peacemaker is a family-run conscious community center in South Miami dedicated to creating a welcoming space for wellness, movement, creativity, and connection. The studio brings together a diverse range of practices, from yoga and dance to workshops, women’s circles, and other community experiences.
For Vaivén, The Peacemaker provides an intimate and nurturing environment for dancers to explore live music, improvisation, and creative movement. Its emphasis on community and personal growth makes it a natural home for the beginning of our artistic journey.

NIDO | Refuge of Senses is an artistic and sensory space in Miami’s Midtown Art District dedicated to make art more accessible and to foster interaction between international artists and an eclectic, cosmopolitan audience. Rather than a traditional gallery experience, NIDO invites visitors to participate, explore, experiment, and experience art through the senses.
